Almost 1,000 North County Residents attended the Ferguson Community Fair on October 13 sponsored by the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, Centene Corporation and Home State Health at the Ferguson Community Empowerment Center located at 9420 West Florissant Ave.

The Festivities began with an unveiling of the Urban League Civil Rights Mural in the lobby of the Ferguson Community Empowerment Center which was attended by some of those pictured in the Mural, including Norman R. Seay, Percy Green, Malik Ahmed, Ron Gregory (brother of Dick Gregory) and Shelbe Bullock (daughter of Frankie Freeman). “It is truly an honor to be pictured amongst our greatest civil rights leaders,” said Malik Ahmed, President and CEO of Better Family Life, Inc.

The free Community Fair also featured job opportunities, groceries, school supplies, toiletries, entertainment, gifts and prizes. In addition, free health screenings were given by: Affinia Healthcare which provided free vision, hearing, BMI and Glucose tests; People’s Health Centers which offered free dental exams; and the Urban League Community Mobile Health Unit which provided free HIV testing. During the Festival, the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis also held a “When to Buy! Workshop” financial literacy class to better inform residents of the real costs associated with buying and owning a car.
