Eddie Levert, Shirley Caesar and Martha Reeves to headline Urban League Salute to Women Gala

On June 15, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis is poised to honor 19 distinguished women in leadership on the local and national levels. The 15th Annual Salute to Women in Leadership Gala will take place at the Marriott St. Louis Grand Hotel with a black-tie reception beginning at 5:30 p.m.

 

Pastor Shirley Caesar and Martha Reeves are among the Lifetime Achievement Honorees which will also feature Cathy Hughes, founder of Urban One, and the International Presidents of four African American Sororities including Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho. Following the dinner and awards ceremony, Platinum Recording Artist Eddie LeVert, of the O’Jays will serenade the awardees with a full concert.

“We are proud to recognize women who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve their communities. The Urban League is proud to give recognition to outstanding women who embody the mission of our organization to help create opportunities for disadvantaged and overlooked individuals and communities,” McMillan said.
Women to be honored at this year’s festivities include: Cathy Hughes, Shirley Caesar, Martha Reeves, Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, Beverly E. Smith, Mary B. Wright, Alicia Elsner, Brenda McDuffie, Courtney Bryant, Cynthia W. Thompson, Mayor Emeka Jackson-Hicks, Jan Holloway, Karen Jones, Kristina L. Hazley, Laraine Davis, Mary Tillman, Ollie Stewart, Sara Burke and Shirley Washington.  Former Salute to Women Honorees Ms. Xernona Clayton, of the Trumpet Awards Foundation, and Deborah Catchings Smith, International President of Sigma Gamma Rho will serve as special guests at this year’s event.
