Housing Assistance
The Housing Department provides individual and group counseling along with community partners to educate residents on financial capabilities, credit and money management, pre-and post-purchase housing counseling, loss mitigation outreach sessions and advocacy for fair housing. The Urban League served clients though mortgage services, homeownership, rent and utility assistance, financial literacy classes and workshops.
The Urban League partnered with Bank of America, Enterprise Bank & Trust, Montgomery Bank and Wells Fargo, the Urban League also serves as a member of CIBC’s Community Advisory Council to advise investments of $3 billion for housing initiatives in the four Metropolitan areas of Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee and St. Louis. Additionally, the Urban League received grants from CIBC, Enterprise Bank & Trust Associated Bank and Montgomery Bank to sponsor financial education and homebuyer courses.
Each year, the Urban League Housing Department hosts the St. Louis Metropolitan Housing Task Force which is comprised of multiple leaders from lending institutions, governmental agencies, community stakeholders and nonprofits. The Metropolitan St. Louis Equal Housing and Opportunity Council is also in partnership with the Urban League to provide free education on fair housing laws to program participants.

Rental AssistanceThe Urban League helps families to keep their homes by preventing evictions and foreclosures through its rent/mortgage assistance programs. This program allows the Urban League to serve clients with rental or mortgage assistance through the St. Louis City Affordable Housing Trust Fund Grant (AHTF), St. Louis County Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) and the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) that is chaired by The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to prevent homelessness in the entire St. Louis Metropolitan region.

Home RepairThe aim of the UL Home Repair Program is to provide minor home repairs to elderly and/or disabled homeowners with household incomes at or below the low to moderate-income levels (80% of Area median income) as established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The minor repairs consisted of minor electrical/plumbing repairs, installation of toilets, faucets, grab bars, handrails, and ceiling fans. Installation/repair of wheelchair ramps, porches, stairs, minor concrete repair, and installation/repair of exterior/interior doors, storm doors, and windows. |
