Development & Special Events
As the Urban League expands its reach to assist more and more people, the continued growth of the agency’s support and volunteer base is very important. The Urban League must be positioned to respond to the needs of this community, where lifestyles can change in the blink of an eye, or in the eye of the storm. The Urban League Development Department is responsible for grant writing, special events, identifying and involving potential donors, members and volunteers to support the important work of the Urban League. To this extent, the Urban League will continue to build the administrative and fundraising capacity of the organization to ensure that all services remain at the highest quality.
Founded on December 12, 2013, under Urban League President & CEO Michael P. McMillan, the Whitney M. Young Society honors outstanding donors - those giving $500 to over $5,000 in unrestricted revenue for Urban League programs and services. To date, the society has generated nearly $500,000 towards the League’s services.
The Salute to Women in Leadership Gala is an annual event that was created to recognize the tireless contributions of outstanding women.
The Urban League (ULSTL) in conjunction with the St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS) hosts the Urban Expo Back to School & Community Empowerment Festival every summer that over 27,000 residents of the metropolitan area attend.
Each year, the Urban League hosts an annual dinner meeting, reporting its accomplishments to the community. This fundraising celebration provides financial resources to support the League’s programs.
